Hi Mel,
Many, many thanks for the blankets. I saw the 2 huge piles today. Please convey my heartfelt thanks to your production team, there must be hours of work in those blankets.
We are setting the Emergency Night Rota up at the moment and will open as soon as we get a sustained cold period. I know we have had a few frosts, but the air temperature is still above zero. It always amazes me when I talk to the homeless how they are able to stand frosty nights and low temperatures. Once open, we have agreed with the Borough Council that we can stay open even though the temperature might rise above zero, and we are planning to be open longer this year.
To address the hygiene problem, we have invested in laundry bags which will each contain a duvet, pillow and blanket (most likely one of yours) and then be allocated to one person who will use it each time they return. They will not be given out to take away, because as soon as they get wet they are useless.
Again, thank you and your team for helping us to help the homeless and needy, and I assure you that the blankets will be well used.
